In Texas, designing, installing or servicing an irrigation system for someone else takes a license from the TCEQ. Our Licensed Irrigator is on staff, so the irrigation plan is drawn, sealed and coordinated with the landscape, the site and the building by the same team.
What goes into an irrigation plan
Every new system needs a site-specific plan, drawn to scale and sealed, signed and dated by the Licensed Irrigator. It shows the property lines, buildings, beds and watered areas, each zone with its valve size and flow, the controller and sensors, the equipment specifications and the design pressure. The plan stays on site during installation and becomes the as-built drawing at the end.

Permits and inspections
Texas cities with 20,000 or more people must require an irrigation permit and inspect the installation. In Houston, the permit is pulled by a licensed irrigator or master plumber registered with the city, and the installation is inspected on site against TCEQ standards. We plan for the inspection from the first zone.

Questions
Do I need a licensed irrigator to design my sprinkler system?
In Texas, anyone who designs, installs or services an irrigation system for someone else needs a TCEQ license, with a few exceptions, such as homeowners working on their own property. Our Licensed Irrigator designs and seals the plan.
Do you design commercial irrigation?
Yes: retail centers, offices, schools, parks, sports fields and parking lot islands, laid out with the landscape plan and the site.
Does the plan include backflow prevention?
Yes. Every plan shows the backflow prevention device for the connection, a master valve after it and an isolation valve between the meter and the backflow device.
Can you take it through construction?
Yes. A1 is a design-build company, so we can carry the project from the sealed plan through construction, or hand the plan to your installer.
